  This teaching module is developed to assist in the teaching of ELA at the level of 3rd grade for Ohio Standards of RL3.8.

• SPECIFICATIONS

  This activity focuses on points an author makes and then how he or she connects them to evidence or support.  NON-FICTION is slightly more technical than fiction, but - - with practice - - students can learn to identify an author’s point(s) and then connect it to supporting detail.  In this activity, students practice making points and then backing them up them with reasons.  In addition, they analyze sample texts to identify the point made by the author and the detail that supports it.   Students also express this analysis in Quick-Writes.  (W 3.1; 3.2; 3.3).   At the end of the activity, students take two tests - - both with items parallel to the OST Released Items.
