  This teaching module is developed to assist in the teaching of ELA at the level of 3rd grade for Ohio Standards of RL3.9 Non-Fiction.

  Title: Compare-Contrast Details of Non-Fiction Texts on Same Topic

  Ideal for Teachers.

• SPECIFICATIONS

  This activity brings together the skills from prior Grade 3 Reading Informational standards to show how the details in one passage compare and contrast to those in another one on the same topic.  For the two texts, students compare and contrast the explicit details, including (a) the main idea or topic; (b) the detail that supports the main idea; (c) the relationship between ideas; and (d) the predicted eaning of unfamiliar words.   

  In addition, students identify (e) the author’s point of view; the (f) nformation provided by illustrations; and (g) the evidence used by an author to support his or her points.  Students complete graphic to show this comparison and contrast.  The details of this comparison are also the bases for Quick-Writes.  (W 3.1; 3.2; 3.3). At the end of the activity, students take two tests - - both with items parallel to the OST Released Items.
