I believe teachers influence their students greatly, whether on purpose or not. I still remember my fourth grade teacher as if it were yesterday. I also confess that there are many teachers I do not remember. Once you stand before a room full of boys and girls and get that first "Oh, now I get it" you are hooked! Tighten your seat belt and get ready for a thrilling ride.
As a Science teacher for 37 years, I feel comfortable in middle school and high school science classes—having taught earth science, physical science, biology, physics, and chemistry. I have had the honor to serve as a member of the state committee in writing the Ohio Academic Content Standards for Science in 2001-2002 and as a member of the writing team for the Ohio Science Curriculum Model in 2003-2004. I also served as a team member with the Ohio State Board of Education in developing the former 9th grade proficiency examinations for science.
During a 5 year hiatus from teaching I worked in medical research at the VA hospital in Cleveland assisting Dr. Robert Ruff with research for neuro-muscular diseases. I also served as a member of a selected team for writing and integrating curriculum for Sevenstar Academy. I enjoy teaching and continue to be an active substitute in a local school when I am not on the road with EdFOCUS.
