For over two decades, the EdFOCUS team has worked in comprehensive school reform. We have helped districts improve student performance by upgrading and aligning their curriculum, enhancing the teaching and learning in every classroom, and adjusting their infrastructure to sustain the reforms once they were made.
This process begins with
- A “Self-Study” or needs assessment of the district or school, taking a “snap-shot” of the current status of student performance, the instructional program, and the overall infrastructure.
- The school or district Leadership Team then examines the results to identify the strengths and needs, prioritizing the needs and formulating them into goal statements.
- Next, the Leadership Team develops a Focus Plan or multi-year Plan of Action to guide the reform efforts – both immediately and during the next 3-5 years.
Action Plans typically include a close examination of the curriculum to ensure its alignment with the state’s academic content standards and a deliberate focus on “Power” or “Priority” Indicators; integrating techniques from the “best practices” research into the delivery and assessment of classroom instruction; the development of benchmark assessments; adjusting the infrastructure to support the enacted reforms; increasing parent involvement; generating greater community support; and the continuous monitoring of student performance.
