During my career as an educator the most challenging but most rewarding position I have held is that of an instructional coach assigned to numerous under-performing middle schools in a large urban school district. Working side-by-side with administrators and teachers afforded me the opportunity to build trusting relationships that, in turn, enabled strong working partnerships. I've been the set of external eyes and the quiet voice on the side. The ensuing reflective conversations resulted in the growth of the professionals I worked with as well as my own.
I believe that collaboration is a powerful tool that far too many educators are exempt from either by choice or design. As the world rapidly changes, so must education and how students are instructed. To this end, the opportunities that EdFOCUS offers to build teacher capacity and improve student achievement are invaluable. I look forward to sharing my journey with clients and building upon my own capacity as an educator.
