As a consultant and an instructional coach, I am given the opportunity work with teachers to find ways to present curricular materials in novel, diverse ways.
I believe that teachers are creative people, and as they model their own creative processes, they unleash the creative vitality of students. Teachers show students how to enhance their own thinking when students are provided the means and opportunities to construct meaning themselves within any discipline studied.
Through EdFOCUS, the work with teachers focuses on planning learning activities that address standards and objectives while engaging the students as learners. Together, we work to help students acquire mastery of concepts and skills that enable them to access the information they need. I especially enjoy working with teachers to utilize data and technology to challenge students to become rational, logical problem solvers who accept responsibility for their learning.
Designing standards-based units for mastery learning and engaging students with purposeful, effective implementation strategies have been a delight for me during my many years of teaching. I continue to find great satisfaction in working with other teachers to do the same.
