Iris Pistell
My passion in education is for children to embrace learning on a daily basis with the enthusiasm they innately possess. My experience in the public schools for the past twenty-six years has enabled me to use strategies to engage students in their learning process and allow them to become partners in their own learning. Through the use of best practices and techniques in the teaching of social studies, students are able to make connections to today’s events and challenges.
Application of knowledge is necessary and beneficial to analyze the successes and failures of the past. For example, the study of an ancient civilization such as Mesopotamia can provide insights into the effects of the overuse of resources. Fostering the need to analyze the past and evaluate the result can provide clarity of thought for future problem-solving and future problem solvers.
Through the work with EdFOCUS, I am afforded the opportunity to share my passion with many teachers. I especially enjoy working one-on-one with teachers in the development of units of instruction and discussing how they will help every student to be successful in their classrooms.
